You know how the rest goes. Well, this year for the first time the stockings were hung but not by me, nor did I put up the tree, nor decorate it…my husband and kids did it all! Want to know what I was doing? I was taking a nap…that’s right, a nap. One of those periods of elusive sleep during the day that I look at young children having with feelings of envy and regret for all of the naps that I fought against in my childhood stubbornness.
I was exhausted from a long work week including Christmas parties and lunches, my daughter’s 10th birthday, her friend’s birthday party, gift shopping and wrapping, packing for our upcoming trip, both kid’s championship soccer matches and a partridge in a pear tree. I was worn OUT; so you can imagine how happy I was to wake up to find it all done. Some of you might be reading this and think “so what” but for me it felt like a Christmas miracle. I hope this is a sign of the maturity and initiative that my children will display in the year to come.
We collect Christmas ornaments from the places that we travel. I’ve shown some of the ornaments from London, Amsterdam, Venice, Paris and Dublin. It’s a nice reminder at Christmas of the places that we’ve been together. I’m looking forward to adding a new one to our tree just in time for Christmas *wink*. Let me know in the comments if you have any special traditions
